This is the seventh in a series of articles that
explain the meaning of Jesus’ parables
in terms of the parabolic imagery and Hebrew
idioms the Prophets used. The first six articles
appeared in the January 1998, October 1998, October
2003, October 2004, January 2005, and October 2007
issues. This article explains various aspects of the
meaning and significance of the
parabolic imagery related to the “sign
of the Jonah” Jesus Christ said would be
given to His generation. It also explains what the Book
of Jonah is talking about.
Questions & Answers
The first Answer shows how easy it is for Satan to
deceive people who are ignorant of the Hebrew language.
The second explains the meaning and
significance of the Hebrew terms translated
“fatherless” and “widow” and
comments on the mention of a “Danel” in the
Canaanite myth of Aqhat. The third clarifies some points
concerning the activities of the Antichrist and points
out what role Pretenders play in the testing of True
Believers. The fourth explains the significance
of the parabolic pantomime Jesus conducted when
He ate broiled fish after His resurrection. The last
